Game And Save, L.L.C. is a family owned and operated store that began in 2007 as an online website that bought video games called BuyingUsedGames (www.buyingusedgames.com). Our goal was simple – to pay people the most money for their video game products; whether it be games, consoles, controllers, accessories, magazines, strategy guides…you name it, we bought it. And without tooting our horn too much, please allow me to say – mission accomplished. Our store thrived, as we have dealt with literally thousands of customers all wanting to get top dollar for their video games. Today, we bring that same attitude, as well as many new and exciting ideas, to Game And Save.
But why start a video game store in this day and age where the market is already dominated by huge companies that have shareholders and multiple stores throughout the country? What chance do you think a small family run business such as yourself has to compete in “their” market? We’ve been asked these questions and many other related ones a hundred times over since we’ve started. And our answer is simple – a family owned business runs on family values, not the values of corporate America. And therein lies our reasoning why we know with your help we will succeed.
You are probably wondering what we mean by that, so let me explain. You, our customer, are not just a number to us. You are not someone that we simply want to take advantage of and suck the life out of because we can. We aren’t going to grab you by your ankles, flip you upside down and shake every last nickel out of you. There aren’t any egos here. We don’t think that because we have a few hundred stores across the nation that we are the greatest thing since sliced bread and you have no choice to adhere to our will, as some companies do. And most importantly, we understand that we need your business to make it in this market, not the other way around. So in other words, we are a company based on honesty, integrity and fairness to everyone (thanks God, mom and dad).
So what do we have to offer that these other companies don’t? Simply put – MORE MONEY AND VIDEO GAMES FOR YOU. We are able to do this in a variety of ways. Here are a few examples:
1. Paying you the MOST MONEY for your video games – If you were a visitor/customer of our old BuyingUsedGames.com website, this concept should pretty darn familiar to you. We pride ourselves on being able to pay you top dollar for all of your video games and related items. We give free price quotes on everything video game related that you have to sell. Oh, and maybe the best part – we pay for shipping.
2. Selling you brand new video games at discounted prices – Our old online site didn’t sell any video games. We did a few trades here and there if people were interested in getting something else for their games, but that was about it. Hence why we have created a new store. Game and Save has much more to offer you. And as mentioned a few sentences ago, we are going to sell you video games at discounted prices.
What does this mean? Well let me explain how stores get new video games. They basically order them from a distributor, or the actual company who made the game. That company will sell them a video game for “X” amount of dollars, and the store will then sell that same game for “XX” amount of dollars. The “XX” is usually the SRP (Suggested Retail Price).
So here is how we are different. Other stores will buy that brand new video game for, let’s say, $50.00 without tax (because they charge you the tax), and sell it to you for $59.99 (or whatever the SRP is) plus tax. On each video game they sell you, they are making around $10.00, give or take. What we do, is we take that video game that we bought for $50.00 (without tax) – and we sell it to you for $50.00 (with tax if you live in New Jersey or buy it here, otherwise there isn’t tax for online sales). So you are probably wondering right now: how do we make any money then? We do that by having you become a member of our store. Basic membership is only $12.00 for the entire year. This means, that as a member, you are going to save almost $10.00 on each video game that you buy from us – even after the cost of shipping, which you don’t pay a dime for (free shipping on us). If you buy 2 video games a year, then you basically just paid for your entire year’s membership. If you are a hardcore gamer that buys a new game every week – then you are going to save yourself roughly $500.00 by being a member of our store. That is a lot of money. If you are just a casual gamer that buys a game let’s say, once a month – then you are going to save yourself roughly $100.00 a year. To see how much money you will save in our store by being a member versus not being one, simply shop around our store and look at what we have to sell. Each new video game we sell has a “Member” price and a “Non-Member” price.
3. Selling you used video games at a reasonable price – Now, without mentioning any names, there are stores out there who will sell a used video game for $5.00 less than it will cost you to buy a new video game. For example, a game that costs you $59.99 plus tax, they will sell you a used copy for $54.99 plus tax. You may be thinking to yourself “well I am still saving $5.00, why are you targeting that store?” Here is why. That used video game had to come from somewhere – you their customer. In order to get it from you, they made you a really lame offer. The highest offer I have seen these stores make was $25.00 store credit, and if you want cash (as most of us do so we can spend our money where/how we want to), you are penalized, so you will only get maybe $20.00 in cash. This is a big reason why our store, Game and Save, is different. Why should that company make $30.00 (or essentially, 150%) profit off of you? It’s an absolute rip-off. Plus, if you do accept their store credit offer…what are you going to do with $25.00 store credit if their used games cost only a few dollars less than brand new? Why should you have to trade in 3 games just to get one back in return?
It doesn’t make any sense, and it is something we are against. Like I said earlier, it is not our mission objective to suck your wallet dry every time you use our store. If you look around our website, you will see that our prices are considerably less for used video games than probably every other store out there. Why? Because we know that if we make 150% profit off of you we are not treating you fairly. We understand that you are not just a number – you are a person, with a family and financial responsibilities. Guess what? We are too! We are a family owned and operated business. We don’t have employees here – our store is made up of members of our family and close friends that understand in order to do well in the video game market, you need to treat people with respect. That same video game that they are paying you $25.00 store credit for would get you at least $25.00 cash in our store. On top of that, we aren’t going to re-sell it for $54.99. If you look around our site you can see our prices – we have nothing to hide. We sell that same game for somewhere in the vicinity of $28.00 to $32.00. Are there exceptions? Of course there are. If the game was just released yesterday, and you trade it in after playing it and completing it within the first 24 hours – you will most likely get more than $25.00 cash for selling to us because the game is a day old. On top of that, the game would cost more than $28.00 because again – the game is only a day old. The same can be said for older games. Let’s say a big name title game comes out on October 1st. By the end of the month, that game is worth about 60% less than what you paid for it in the used-game market, maybe even a little bit more. Old vintage games and classics are the exception.
4. Zero late fees on renting video games - Keep them as long as you want - Is there anything out there more lame than a late fee? I don’t know about anyone else but I absolutely hate late fees. How are you supposed to know, when renting a video game, when you are going to be done playing it? I think that companies sometimes forget that people do have lives outside of gaming. There are a million things we have to do in a day – not to mention the million other things that pop up unexpectedly. So therefore, we decided to do away with late fees. When you rent video games from us, not only will we pay for shipping the game(s) to you, as well as give you a pre-paid label to ship the game(s) back – but you can also keep the game as long as you want. These are just a few ways how we offer you more video games for your collection, and more money in your pocket. Other ways include constant everyday sales, coupon codes for members and non-members alike, and promotional events where we give away lots of free prizes.
So what is Game and Save, L.L.C. you ask? It’s more than a business – it’s a business owned and operated by family, for families. There is no reason why you can’t get more money for your games, and spend less money to get games – while we in return make a living. The video game companies of today are simply abusing and taking advantage of their customers – and it’s time to take a stand and tell them that you aren’t going to put up with it any longer. At Game And Save we treat all of our customers with the utmost level of respect and honesty. If we can’t pay you the most money for a video game item – we are going to tell you why, and also give you a few ideas on how you can maybe find the price that you are looking for. If we don’t pay well for a video game – we are going to tell you that. For example, sports games from prior to the year we are living in – are virtually worthless. Sports games from 2007 and below have little to zero value in the video game world. This is because the sports world is constantly changing with players retiring and new players emerging, so it’s one of those up-to-date scenarios.
We don’t want you to be a one-and-done buyer/seller of our store. We want you as a lifelong member and repeat customer. We want to communicate with you on a more personal level. We aren’t a big company – we don’t wear suits and we don’t have automated responses programmed to the phone when you call us. We don’t talk and waste 30 seconds of your time when you call us by saying something stupid like “Thank you for calling Game And Save where you can buy and sell new and used games and trade in everything you own for the upcoming blah…” Not our style. We are real people trying to make it in a competitive market. But the most important thing is that we realize we can’t do it on our own – we need you more than you need us.
